Barcelona, Spain

This morning we landed in Barcelona! The flight wasn’t great (namely because of an elderly couple in front of us who decided they were going to recline and sit in our laps) but we made it! On the bus from the airport to the pier we got a great little tour of Barcelona. We weren’t expecting to see much of Barcelona, and were very excited to drive around the city. We even stopped twice to get off the bus and take pictures! The guide showed us the Olympic buildings as well as a beautiful park overlooking the entire city.  The building shaped like a is an office building and the one with the eight spires is a monument to Anton Gaudi. We saw three buildings by the renowned architect, Gaudi. He is famous for organic buildings, taking his inspiration from flowers and animals. The first is a building with really neat balconies and it’s very colorful. They say it looks like dragon skin. The last pictures you’ll see are of Gaudi’s last project that is still under construction. He died before he could complete it (hit by a car) and it’s been under construction since 1892 (I believe this is what the guide said – we were very sleepy). The tour guide told us to come back in 2025 and maybe by then it will be finished. Once done, this monument of Gaudi’s talent will be used for Catholic ceremonies. The small bit of Barcelona that we were fortunate enough to see was quite beautiful. The city is over 2000 years old, and since the Olympics in 1992 it has been modernized quite a bit.  The architecture is breathtaking and we can’t wait to come back and stay longer!

Next stop Marseilles, France!!
