Monaco

I think Monaco was my favorite part of the day. We saw the museum where Jaques Cousteau worked for thirty years as well as his yellow submarine! We then walked through a beautiful garden to get to the cathedral of Monaco where Princess Grace and Prince Ranier were both married, and then buried. The Parliament building of Monaco was beautiful with it’s double staircases. After going to the castle to shop and watch the changing of the guards (everyday at 11:55 a.m.) we went down to Monte Carlo. We ate lunch at the famous Cafe du Paris, which is on the same square as the casino. After lunch we visited the casino, where we couldn’t take pictures. It was stunning. The opulence and elegance was breathtaking. It was much quieter than I thought it would be, though. John and I each took 10 euros to play the slots and I ended up leaving the casino with 40 euros. Winning money is definitely a high!!! I see how people can get sucked in, playing for hours. We wandered around some of the shops in Monte Carlo, and John got a kick out of taking pictures of all the REALLY, REALLY expensive cars.

On the drive back to Villefranche we drove through the cities of Cap Ferrat and Cap d’Antibbes, concluding our day on the French Riviera.
